OUTDOOR LEADER TRAINING BEING OFFERED

Two great courses are being offered May 17-19 at Camp Osborn.  Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) and Outdoor Webelos Leader Training (OWLS).  These courses offer participants the opportunity to fine tune some basic Scouting Skills.  For more information, please click here.

BALOO TRAINING OFFERED

On Saturday, May 18th, Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) will be offered.  For more information, please follow this link. BALOO is a great introduction to Cub Scout camping for leaders and adults.  The cost for the training is $12 which includes lunch.  Please RSVP through the Valdosta Service center by May 13.

CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP!

Day Camp is the camp that comes to the boy! And the Cub Scout year isn't complete without Cub Scout Day Camp. Applications have been mailed to all registered Cub Scouts in the 1st through 4th grades.  Click here for an information sheet about Day Camp.  All boys registered must also have an Annual Health and Medical Record (parts A and B) on file during day camp.  The form is located here on the website under the resources tab.

Day Camp will be held in each district from 9-3 each day as follows:
June 3-7-Chehaw District-YMCA of Leesburg
June 3-7-Rivers District-Paulk Park-Fitzgerald
June 10-14-Alapaha District-Sallas Mahone Elementary School
Volunteers are always needed, please indicate if you can help on the application!

2014 PHILMONT RESERVATIONS-STAND BY RESERVATIONS BEING ACCEPTED
Are you interested in attending Philmont?  Submit an application to be put on our stand by list! We have an arrival date at Philmont of June 29, 2014 and a departure date at Philmont of July 11, 2014.  Exact dates will be provided when transportation and any additional activities are determined.  Estimated costs are $2,000 and all applications require a $200 non-refundable deposit.  Each crew will be made up of at least 4 adults and 8 youth.  For additional information and an application please click here.  

NATIONAL SCOUT JAMBOREE

ALBANY SCOUT SHOP

Effective Wednesday, April 24, the hours of the Albany Scout Shop will be 11:00-5:00 Monday-Thursday and closed on Friday. A common request during our recent survey was to have the office open during lunch and after tracking when people visit the store we hope this better meets the needs of those that utilize the Albany location. We will expand the hours as school resumes in August including Saturday hours!

Range Safety Officer Training

The National BSA Shooting Sports program now mandates that individuals working with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts at the shooting ranges (Archery, BB Shooting, Rifle and Shotgun) have certification in Range Safety Officer Training.

This 8-hour course will be offered on Saturday, May 18 at Camp Patten.  The course will begin at 9:00 am.  A cost of $20 is necessary to cover training materials for each participate, the registration of participants who complete the course as Range Safety Officers and lunch.

Please RSVP to the council service center in Valdosta (229-242-2331) no later than Monday, May 13.

2013 GSW/Kiwanis Club Merit Badge Camp

The Annual Georgia Southwestern/Kiwansis Club Merit Badge Camp will be coming up shortly!  This partnership brings together a top notch faculty at various location.  For more information and a sign up sheet, please click here and return to Dr. Cliett, not the council.

NYLT 

National Youth Leader Training (NYLT) is an intense training course for youth leaders.   It will be held this November over the course of two weekends and is limited to 48 participants.  For more information, please follow this link.

2013-2014 Program Kickoffs

Just when you think you might have a Scouting break – the 2013-2014 Program Kickoff hits the calendar!
This year, each district will host a Program Kickoff.  This event is filled with information and inspiration as the program calendar is unveiled and leader's guides and detailed information on all upcoming events and activities for the first quarter of the program year are discussed and passed out.
Locations are still being nailed down, but please mark your calendar for the date of your district kickoff.
Chehaw District:  Tuesday, July 9
8 Rivers District:  Thursday, July 11
Alapaha District:  Thursday, July 18
Each kickoff will begin at 6:30 pm with a light meal.  Once locations are determined, you will be asked to RSVP for planning purposes.
